Here is another blog post about Alice in Wonderland.
This time I am highlighting another incredibly rare and beautiful illustrated first edition. The artist in the spotlight this time is Harry Rountree - another Golden Age great. With a colourful, traditional water-colour style, his illustrations bring charm and a style entirely fitting with the story.
Also known for illustrations Enid Blyton's early works, Rountree is one of the most eminent illustrations of the era and this edition of Alice is surely one of the best illustrated. However, this book is also worthy of note for the great decorative covers - typical of the era but it is virtually impossible to find any similar Alice editions with these style covers.
Inside you can expect a beautiful double-illustrated title page and colorful illustrations that seem to flow in and out of the text - far better than later editions where many of these illustrations were removed for the sake of cost-cutting.
Take a look below at the photos for a first hand glimpse at this elusive edition of one of the world's most famous books.
Thanks for reading and please share if you know anyone that might find this of interest.
I've written plenty of other posts about similar books too if you fancy some more reading.
