The Power of Winnie - Winnie The Pooh First Editions GUIDE

Here is a brief post concerning A. A. Milne's 'Winnie The Pooh series.Whilst not strictly a series, the four 'original' Milne books are hugely collectible and have been published in a variety of editions.

The truly valuable ones are the first editions (and following early editions).
Prices can be found at the bottom.

The set is made up of 'Winnie The Pooh', 'The House At Pooh Corner', 'When We Were Very Young' and 'Now We are Six'.
First editions are 1926 for 'Winnie The Pooh', 1924 for 'When We Were Very Young', 1928 for 'The House At Pooh Corner' and 1927 for 'Now We Are Six'.

The set looks as below:

Each book has gilt characters stamped upon the front

And the title in gold on the spine. If this shows strongly then the book is likely to be in good condition.

Each book has decorative front and endpapers

The title pages are all similarly quite sparse.
Methuen are the original publishers please note.

Each book has gilded edges to the covers

And also to the top edge of the pages block

Later vintage editions such as 1935 onwards up to 1950 can still be worth a little but by no means as much as the original editions.
The rarest leather bound 'Deluxe' editions hold completely different values to the values given below for the standard first editions, often reaching over £400 for a book in very good condition.

Winnie The Pooh:
With Dust Jacket - £1150 +
Without Dust Jacket - £250+ depending on condition

The House At Pooh Corner:
With Dust Jacket - £300+

Now We Are Six:With Dust Jacket - £350+
Without Dust Jacket - £50

When We Were Very Young:With Dust Jacket - £800+
Without Dust Jacket - Up to £80

These prices are from auction values achieved but can fluctuate depending on condition, time and also competition among bidders.
